Working at Height

Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of workplace fatalities and major injuries. Working at height means any work in any place, and if there were no precautions, a person could fall a distance and be liable to cause personal injury. However, due to the nature of our service, our drivers undertaking work-related driving duties may not be exposed to the risk of working at height, such as:

  • Working on loading bays.
  • Using vehicle tail lifts.
  • Working on vehicle loading bed and Entering/exiting permit to work areas

But, peradventure undertaking activities involving work at height, The Work at Height Regulations 2005 requires employers to:

  • Avoid work at height where it is reasonably practicable to do so.
  • Where work at height cannot be avoided, prevent falls by using either a safe place of work or the right type of equipment.
  • Minimize the distance and consequences of a fall using the right equipment type where the risk cannot be eliminated. To minimize the risk associated with working at height, managers must assess the risk associated with working at height and ensure drivers:
  • Do as much work as possible from the ground.
  • Can get safely to and from where they work at height if applicable.
